Bridge Over Wetland Waters
Two cranes were required Wednesday to build and lower the steel span bridge over Alkyre Run behind the Community Center.
The span connects the center to a new bike path included in a housing project being built on old farmland on North West Street. The bridge spans the small creek that feeds the wetlands behind the center and into Alum Creek.
Arriving in three sections small enough to be transported by truck, the bridge sections were held aloft by the cranes as workers installed plates and bolts joining them into a single structure. Once joined the bridge was laid on newly laid preformed abutments.
Ramps to the bridge will be built when the housing project is close to completion.
Below for paid subscribers is a photo gallery as the bridge is assembled and laid into place.
