Almost Perfect

The city hall Christmas tree was lowered into place Monday and the task of installing the star, lights, and ornaments began for parks department workers.

The tree lighting ceremony on Friday night begins at 6 pm with entertainment, cookies, hot chocolate, and kettle corn on Winter Street across the street from city hall. The cookies and hot chocolate are free, a gift from the city that sponsors the event.

A parade of lights through Uptown begins at 6:30 pm from Home Street ending at city hall with a promise of Santa at the end.

A new addition this year is a Christmas Tree lot on Home Street where you can buy a tree from the selection at Sambuca’s Market in Galena.

Brick Walk Changed, Again

The Brick Walk between Java Central and the old post office is removed Monday as contractors prepare to install a new patio spanning the space between the two buildings.

The original plans called for a raised patio connected to the post office that would have narrowed the ground-level brick walk to about seven feet wide at Java Central.
