Church of the Messiah Replaces Roof on Front Section
Construction crews are currently replacing a flat roof on a front section of the Church of the Messiah as part of an ongoing renovation project aimed at updating and improving this historic landmark on State Street. The area being repaired is located next to the sanctuary's iconic slate-covered A-frame roof and must be completed before the church can install new front-facing windows and expand the room below into a larger, more flexible space.
The renovation project has been in progress for several months and has recently entered a more visible phase, with roofers actively working on the front of the building. While much of the building's familiar appearance will remain unchanged, the updates focus on enhancing accessibility, hospitality, and functionality.
One of the most anticipated updates is the installation of large windows across the front façade. These windows will allow more natural light to enter the interior and frame a newly created gathering space designed for small groups, events, and a café-style environment during the week.
The iconic late roof is in good shape after repairs in 2023 and is not part of the renovation plans.

Other planned improvements include:
A revitalized nursery
An expanded and upgraded chapel with modern technology
A fully accessible lobby featuring new restrooms, including a family restroom
A lift providing access to the upper level
New air conditioning and a fire suppression sprinkler system throughout the renovated areas
Church leaders aim to create a more welcoming and functional environment while honoring the building’s role as a longstanding part of Uptown Westerville’s architectural identity.
