Firefighters and medics assigned to Station 111, the main firehouse in Westerville, spent part of their shift Monday training in ice rescue techniques. Using rescue suits designed for buoyancy and to keep the operator warm and dry, the nine firefighters took turns being both the rescued and rescuer.

The guitar-shaped lake between the Renaissance Hotel and the DHL building was used because the fountain sprinkler keeps a section of the pond unfrozen simulating the open water rescue scenario most encountered in a winter emergency.

New Business

Ebb & Float wellness club is opening its second location at 675 Worthington Road, joining the Westar Neighborhood Retail Center Plaza. The new location will offer flotation therapy, an infrared sauna, cold water immersion, and traditional massage therapy.

Ebb & Float will be located at 675 Worthington Road (map) in the Westar Neighborhood Retail Center Plaza in the building that already has the Chicken Salad Chick restaurant and Simple Rolled Ice Cream.

The space previously housed Urban Float, a float-spa concept that closed last year.
