Bradford Pear Removal Reward Program

Westerville residents now have an opportunity to contribute directly to local environmental health and get rewarded for doing so. Franklin Soil & Water Conservation District (FSWCD) has introduced the Invasive Trade-In Program, specifically targeting Callery and Bradford Pear trees in Westerville. The program offers a $100 incentive to residents who remove and replace these invasive trees with native plants.

Many boulevards and medians in Westerville are planted with the invasive tree, which nurseries once frequently suggested and planted for residents looking for decorative trees for their homes.

The initiative aims to tackle the spread of invasive pear trees. These trees have significantly impacted local ecosystems by crowding out native plant species crucial for wildlife and pollinator survival. Additionally, invasive species have been known to cause substantial economic impacts, especially affecting agricultural sectors across North America.
