An inspector uses an infrared gas detector to check for leaks on the Columbia Gas meters and systems in Uptown Westerville Wednesday afternoon. as part of a normal system of checking the integrity of fittings in the pipeline.

Any leaks discovered using the electronic sensor are verified with a visual inspection using a soapy liquid over the suspect leak. This leak, below, was marked at 40 parts per million and cataloged for a repair crew inspection.
