Saturday evening’s Uptown Untapped took an unexpected turn when a rainstorm swept over the festival, sending people scrambling beneath umbrellas, tables and whatever shelter they could find.
Some called it a night. Others simply waited it out.
When the storm finally moved on, the people who stayed were rewarded with a very different festival experience. A rainbow appeared over Uptown, the crowds thinned, the lines shortened, and the music continued. What had been a busy street festival suddenly felt almost like a private concert for the people willing to get a little wet.
There was still plenty to eat and drink, and for those who remained, the rain became part of the story rather than the end of it.
Sometimes the best part of a summer festival comes after the storm.
