Repair And Recycle On Saturday - Two Locations
Repair Café Set to Bring Broken Items and Community Back to Life
This Saturday, Westerville residents can fix their broken belongings instead of throwing them away, thanks to Repair Café at The Point at Otterbein University, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Hosted by Sustainable Westerville in partnership with SWACO, Uptown Westerville Inc., and Otterbein University, the Repair Café invites community members to bring up to two household items in need of repair. Volunteer fixers, including electricians, seamstresses, and general tinkerers, will work directly with attendees to assess and, if possible, repair the items on the spot.
Walk-ins are welcome, and organizers suggest arriving before 11:30 a.m. to allow time for evaluation and assistance. No parts will be sold at the event, so attendees are encouraged to bring any specific parts, like cords, batteries, or switches, that their item might need.
Besides household repairs, the event will offer free recycling for electronics and Styrofoam, giving an easy way for responsible disposal.
The Repair Café is part of a growing movement centered on waste reduction, repair education, and community engagement. Past events in Westerville have attracted residents of all ages, many of whom leave with not only repaired items but also new skills and connections.
Westerville to Hold Free Shredding Day at Hoff Woods Park
Tomorrow morning, the City of Westerville will hold its Shredding Day event at Hoff Woods Park from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., providing residents a safe way to dispose of sensitive documents.
Residents will access the park via Westdale Avenue, where staff from Westerville Parks & Recreation and Royal Document Destruction will manage the process. Each vehicle can bring up to three boxes of paper documents for shredding. Bags and plastic tubs will not be accepted.
To keep the process efficient and secure, the event will be a drive-thru. Participants will stay in their vehicles while volunteers unload the documents, which will be placed directly into locked containers for secure transport and destruction at an off-site facility. There will be no on-site shredding during the event.
Shredding services will be offered free of charge as part of the city’s ongoing efforts to help residents protect personal information and reduce the risk of identity theft.
