Running Crossing Alkyre Run
Bike and Pedestrian Bridge Foundations
Excavation work for the pedestrian and bike path bridge has started behind the Westerville Community Center. The bridge using underground pre-formed concrete bridge abutments crosses Alkyre Run.
The bridge connects the center to Towns on the Greenway, the controversial housing project being built on 14 acres of former family farmland bordering North West Street. Residents on North West Street opposed the project citing the development would increase traffic and was not in character for the neighborhood.
Cranes will be used to set the abutments in the excavated holes and to lower the bridge into place similar to the method used to complete the bike path bridge over County Line Road.
