Apartment Access Upgraded
The first layer of asphalt is laid on Oakland Ave. intersecting South State Street upgrading the entrance to a new mixed-use apartment complex. The final layer will be laid on the first weekday without rain. More than 150 tons of asphalt were laid in the first layer.
The rebuilt roadway, less than the length of a football field, is wider and longer than the previous road, adds gutters, and extends closer to the bike path behind the complex. It does not connect to the bike path because a paved portion of the U.S. Post Office training facility sits between the property and the path.
The completed road will be built over a portion of the adjacent dentist's office parking lot which had been built into the right-of-way when the original road was needed only to access an adjacent home and the office.
