Tapping & Crashing

Dennis Devine uses a brace and bit to drill one of two small holes in the southern side of one of the three maple trees on the grounds of Hanby Elementary School in Uptown Westerville. Devine has been tapping maple trees for Westerville schools for more than 20 years and has outlived several trees he used to gather sap for students to turn into maple syrup in their classrooms.

A car missing its right rear wheel sits in the crosswalk after a car crash at State St. and Heatherdown Dr. Friday afternoon. Parts of the intersection were blocked for about an hour as police investigated the crash and vehicles were towed away. No injuries were reported in the crash.
