Loose Crossing Warning
Orange cones mark a section of the sidewalk at State and Main where the bubble-textured Detectable Warning Surface (DWS) pads have pulled loose, creating a hazard for pedestrians.
The raised, truncated dome structure will be refastened to the concrete as soon as the weather stabilizes long enough to remove the ramps and make repairs.
City Engineer Nate Lang says about the repairs, “The Westerville Service Department is going to try to get them screwed back down when weather permits. Water gets under the tiles, and during a heavy freeze, they can pop up like you’re seeing. Some of them have actually started settling back into place with the warm-up last week.”
These surfaces are there to warn people with vision loss that they’re approaching a change in elevation or a hazard, such as the edge of the street. Underfoot, the texture feels different from the sidewalk, signaling “stop and assess before crossing.”
Millstone Creek Renovation Begins
The first week of renovation at the popular Millstone Creek Playground began with the delivery of materials and the beginning of rerouting the creek to better manage water flow through the small park.
RFP For Water Delivery System At Treatment Plant
The City of Westerville is seeking a company to set up an automated system to sell large amounts of water for its Water Division. The city has asked companies to send in their proposals for this project.
The City wants to update and make it easier to give out large amounts of water by using a new system that does important steps automatically. This system should let people pay automatically, watch water use as it happens, measure water accurately, and give clear reports.
City officials say the new system will serve both commercial and residential customers who buy bulk water. By updating current processes, the City hopes to work more efficiently, track water use more accurately, and get better financial and usage data.
The new system will handle all aspects of selling large volumes of water, with safe and simple payment options. Staff will be able to see water being given out in real time. Accurate meters will help ensure bills are correct and rules are followed. The system will also include robust reporting tools so the Water Division can review sales, identify patterns, and maintain clear records.
