Janice Louise Rond
1946 – 2025
Janice Louise Rond, 79, of Westerville, Ohio, died at home surrounded by family on Wednesday, November 12, 2025. Born and raised in Woodburn, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Wilfred and Velma (Osterhaus) Rekeweg. She graduated from Ball State University in 1969 and taught home economics and life skills at the Ohio School for the Deaf until her retirement in 2006. In retirement, she created blankets and quilts for children in foster care through My Very Own Blanket, volunteered weekly for more than 10 years at Mount Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital, and was active with Helping Hands in the Garden. An avid gardener, she featured her home in the WesterFlora tour for many years. She enjoyed traveling with her family, held a lasting affection for San Francisco and the Kansas City Chiefs, and supported cancer charities as a 25-year breast cancer survivor.
She is survived by her son, Patrick Rond of Westerville, her daughter, Michelle Rond of Delaware, Ohio, her grandsons, Will and Alex Rond of Upper Arlington, Ohio, and her dog, Misty. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, W. Michael Rond, in 2020, and by her parents.
Hugo Alfonso Chocano Extremera
1950 – 2025
Hugo Alfonso Chocano Extremera, 75, of Westerville, Ohio, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2025. Born in April 1950 in Lima, Peru, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother. He was a devoted member of his church and community and was known for his warm spirit, witty humor, love of food, and passion for travel. Hugo built a varied career in the pharmacy industry, hospitals, teaching, and supply chain, and he recently retired from OhioHealth.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Catalina Amalia Estremera and Carlos Chocano Malandado, and by his older sister, Beatrice Lewis. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Ida Chocano.
