Born in Lincoln, Nebraska, to Philip and Bonnie Smith, Chris grew up with a deep love for music, justice, and family. A graduate of Lincoln Northeast High School (Class of 1976) and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, she began her career as a legal secretary before devoting herself to raising her four children—a role she considered her most outstanding achievement.
She shared a nearly 50-year love story with her husband, Ron, and together they raised their family in Nebraska, Ohio, and Illinois. Chris was proud of the life they built together, from their earliest days to the custom home they designed in Westerville, where every detail reflected her warmth and style.
Chris had a love for theater, live music, travel, and the Chicago Cubs. She saw many of her favorite artists live, relished family trips to places like Kauai and Colorado, and never missed a chance to wave the “W” flag. She was especially proud to share one last Cubs game in person with her son just weeks before her passing.
She held strong convictions and a deep sense of compassion for the world. She believed in equity, peace, environmental stewardship, and standing up for the vulnerable. She lived her values and passed them on to her children and grandson.

Sinclair; brother Hal Smith; and sister Carol Sheaff. She was preceded in death by her parents, Philip and Bonnie Smith, and her in-laws, Duane and Charlotte Sinclair.

From singing lullabies to her grandson to cheering from the sidelines or theater seats, she lived for the people she loved. Her memory will endure in their stories, songs, and shared moments for years to come.

Those who knew him will remember not just his stories or his jokes—but how he made them feel. He will be missed deeply and remembered well.
