Hazel Ruth Kitchen, 80, of Westerville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 2, 2025. She was born on October 8, 1944, in Naugatuck, West Virginia, to the late Rush and Launa Muncy.
Hazel was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who cherished her family and her faith. She found joy in caring for others, sharing laughter, and appreciating life’s simple pleasures—especially getting her hair and nails done, watching her favorite shows, and enjoying Christmas lights.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Lester Kitchen; son, Ricky Pernell; sisters, Margie, Opal, Beulah, and Ruby; and brothers, Johnny, Earl, Riley, and Alva.
Hazel is survived by her granddaughters, Stephany (Philip) Roseberry and Jessie Kitchen; sister, Rosie (Tom) Hartmann; brother, Tom (Merlyn) Muncy; sisters-in-law, Diana and Rosanna Kitchen; brother-in-law, Walter Robinson; and many nieces and nephews she loved dearly.
Edward “Big Ed” Hale, 65, of Westerville, passed away unexpectedly after many years living with the effects of Marfan Syndrome, diabetes, and related health complications. He met life’s challenges with quiet strength, humor, and kindness, always offering a smile and a friendly word. Known affectionately in his neighborhood as “Big Ed,” he was loved for his warmth, generosity, and unmistakable personality.
Born in Lima, Ohio, Ed began working in kitchens at 13 and built a career defined by dedication and artistry. He moved to Columbus in 1982, where he met and married the love of his life, Cindy, in 1983. His skill and work ethic carried him through several country clubs, culminating in his role as Executive Chef at Brookside Golf & Country Club, where he served until his retirement in 1992.
In retirement, Ed devoted himself to creating a loving home and sharing his gift for cooking with family and friends. He cherished time spent with his mother, Ila, whose love for “Eddie” was unwavering. Their daily calls, shopping trips, and family gatherings were treasured routines. His passion for music—especially 70s classic rock—was ever-present, filling his neighborhood with familiar tunes and laughter.
At Ed’s request, there will be no formal service. A private family remembrance will be held at a later date.
Patricia Kay Parrish, 77, of Westerville, passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 8, 2025. Born on February 12, 1948, in Denison, Ohio, Pat lived a life filled with warmth, humor, and curiosity. She grew up in Gnadenhutten before moving to Columbus, where she raised her family and worked as an X-ray technician.
Pat enjoyed life’s simple pleasures—reading, listening to classic rock, online shopping, and cheering on her favorite teams. She was an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes, Columbus Blue Jackets, and Cleveland Guardians and Cavaliers, and she loved sharing game-day excitement with family and friends.
Instead of flowers, donations may be made in Pat’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
Joan O’Neil, 96, of Westerville, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2025, at Smith’s Mill Health Campus. A longtime resident of Central Ohio, Joan retired from Columbus Public Schools and was known for her warm spirit, quick wit, and love of life.
She was an enthusiastic Ohio State Buckeye fan who enjoyed traveling, visiting casinos, playing cards and bingo, and knitting gifts for loved ones. Joan was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and the Blendon Senior Center, where she treasured the fellowship, shared meals, and lifelong friendships she made over the years.
Her family and friends will remember her for her kindness, sense of humor, and the joy she brought to every gathering.
