Charles William “Chuck” Gallagher, 90, of Westerville, died peacefully at home on Monday, September 22, 2025, surrounded by his family.
He was born August 28, 1935, in Linton, Indiana, to the late Genevieve M. (Ryan) and William L. Gallagher. Chuck grew up in New Lexington, Ohio, and graduated from New Lexington High School in 1953, where he played baseball and basketball, performed in school plays, and helped edit the senior edition of the Lexingtonian.
Following graduation, he served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956, spending much of his service in Alaska. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Ohio University in 1959 and began his professional career as a draftsman. In 1966, he became a registered architect in Ohio, later earning registrations in Kentucky and West Virginia.
Throughout his career, Chuck contributed to numerous notable projects, including the Roscoe Village Inn, Johnson-Humerickhouse Museum, Coshocton County Joint Vocational School, Coshocton Public Library, Cambridge Health Care Center, and the Coshocton Fire Department, among others.
A devoted professional and family man, Chuck will be remembered for his dedication, craftsmanship, and quiet integrity.
Richard Charles Palmer Jr., 83, of Westerville, Ohio, passed away on September 22, 2025, at the Landings of Westerville.
He was born on September 16, 1942, to the late Richard Charles Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Palmer. Richard was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Carole Palmer, and his sister, Bonnie.
He is survived by his children, Dawn Ann (James) Brosnan and Richard C. (Suzanne) Palmer III; grandchildren, Trevor, Emilie, Travis (Siobhan), and Shannon Brosnan, and George (Briana) and Malcolm Palmer; his brother, Robert Palmer; as well as several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
A proud Marine, Richard served as a reservist in the United States Marine Corps. He graduated from Linden McKinley High School and spent much of his career with Timken before retiring and continuing his service to the community by working 16 years in food service at Alcott Elementary School.
Richard was a man of faith and a longtime usher at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Westerville. He enjoyed ice cream, the Cleveland Browns, Ohio State football, playing cards with friends, Filet-O-Fish sandwiches, and wearing his favorite OSU cap. Known for his ingenuity and independence, he was an accomplished do-it-yourselfer who took pride in home projects and woodworking.
David Charles Mylander, 85, of Westerville, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Mount Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital.
He was born to Wilton Charles and Jeannette R. (Clapham) Mylander and was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Millicent J. Mylander of Sulphur, Louisiana, and his brother Kenneth W. Mylander of Columbia, South Carolina.
David is survived by his devoted wife of 46 years, Manuella Wyant Mylander; children, Lisa Reade (Steve), Amy Berry (James), David H. (“Hank”), and Zachary; grandsons, Nicholas Reade (Darby), Mitchell Reade (Anya), Benjamin Mylander, and Jackson Mylander. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and his special cousin-in-law, Barbara Clapham.
A proud graduate of Westerville High School’s Class of 1958, David enjoyed a 40-year career in radio advertising at WBBY, WTVN, WHOK, and The Blitz, forming lasting friendships with many of his clients. Known for his quick wit and colorful sense of humor, he delighted in sharing stories of growing up in Westerville.
David had a lifelong passion for the outdoors. He was an avid camper, sailor, cyclist, and skier, completing the TOSRV bike tour 17 times and racing sailboats at Hoover Yacht Club and on Lake Erie. A skilled handyman and “car whisperer,” he could repair almost anything. He especially cherished time spent fishing and laughing with his grandsons.
A lifelong Lutheran, David was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Gahanna, where he found fellowship and faith. He took great joy in gathering with family and friends, most recently celebrating his 85th birthday surrounded by love and laughter.
In accordance with his wishes, a private family service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Parks Foundation, Westerville Area Resource Ministry, or Peace Lutheran Church.
Brenda Jo Neale, 73, of Westerville, Ohio, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with liver disease. She was born on July 11, 1952, in Jonesboro, Arkansas.
Brenda is survived by her loving husband, Mike Neale; daughters, Stephanie (Jeff) Boehm and Elizabeth (Trent) Southworth; and her adored grandchildren, Toby, Talia, Parker, and Reagan. She also leaves behind her sisters, Judy (Dwayne) Bird and Janice (Frank) Cotham; brother-in-law, Mike Wilson; and sister-in-law, Paula Neale Rice. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe Tullos and Mary Elizabeth Gore, and her sister, Rhonda Susan Wilson.
Over the years, Brenda worked as an executive assistant for Sears, Bendix, Harding Hospital, NBC4, and Consulting Psychologists Press, earning recognition as Secretary of the Year and the respect of many colleagues who became lifelong friends. Later, she found fulfillment in property management with Towne Properties and in real estate, working alongside her husband.
Brenda was deeply active in her church, where she mentored young women and taught her Beauty from the Inside Out class, blending faith, hospitality, and encouragement. She was also gifted in the kitchen and at the sewing machine, known for her biscuits, BBQ, and pies, as well as the graduation dresses, children’s clothes, and handmade garments she created for those she loved.
A proud Southern woman and lifelong Memphis Tigers fan, Brenda never lost her joyful spirit. She was quick to laugh, generous with her time, and happiest when surrounded by family and friends. She delighted in hosting gatherings, celebrating milestones, and cheering on her grandchildren in their many pursuits.
Brenda’s warmth, humor, and hospitality touched everyone who knew her, leaving behind treasured memories and a legacy of love and laughter.
William Frank “Papaw Frank” Shepherd, 68, of Westerville, Ohio, passed away suddenly on September 16, 2025, while on a golf trip in Augusta, Michigan, surrounded by family and close friends. His passing leaves behind a family and community who adored his humor, warmth, and unwavering love.
Born on March 5, 1957, in Wheeling, West Virginia, Frank was the son of the late Emma June Shepherd-Hanlin and William McKinley Shepherd. Raised in Canton, Ohio, he graduated from Perry High School in 1975 before beginning a lifelong career in audio-visual design engineering. Over nearly fifty years, he brought ingenuity and kindness to every workplace, from Patlin Electronics to his most recent position with Mount Carmel Health Systems. Colleagues remember him as the one who could fix anything, lift everyone’s spirits, and always lend a hand.
Frank married the love of his life, Vicki Shepherd, on December 17, 1983. Together they built a joyful, bustling home centered on laughter, generosity, and family. He took immense pride in his children and granddaughter, Juliana Carnes, whom he helped raise from infancy, as well as Stephanie (Colten) Anspach, Brandon (Alyssa) Shepherd, Heather (Wayne) Hiles, Justin (Ashley) Shepherd, Kevin (Emma) Carnes, Shawn (Kayla) Carnes, and Angela Fair, whom he fondly called his “extra kid.” His many grandchildren—too numerous, he often joked, to fit on a T-shirt—each held a special place in his heart, and he eagerly awaited the arrival of those still to come. Frank is also survived by his brother, Bruce (Diana) Shepherd, along with extended family and a wide circle of friends who loved him deeply.
Known for his booming laugh, quick wit, and unfiltered honesty, Frank had a rare gift for making people feel seen and included. He showed up—at games, birthdays, breakfasts, and every small moment that mattered. He loved his dog Luna, feeding backyard birds, and golfing every Saturday at Mill Creek, where he once made a hole-in-one on the third hole. Whether shucking corn at the grill, leading Christmas Eve breakfast, or heading out for a last-minute shopping trip with grandkids and Pepsi in hand, Frank filled ordinary days with joy and connection.
Frank’s life was one of presence, humor, and quiet strength. His laughter, generosity, and love will echo for years to come in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Jacqueline D. “Jackie” Sample Litchfield, 70, of Westerville, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, September 18, 2025, following a lifelong battle with diabetes and related health complications.
Born on September 24, 1954, in Mount Gilead, Ohio, Jackie was the youngest of three children of Bettie June (Owens) Sample Holtom and the late Gerald Richard “Dick” Sample. She spent part of her childhood in Brunswick before returning to Mount Gilead, where she graduated with the Class of 1973.
After graduation, Jackie moved to Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, where she worked in the hospitality industry and married George Litchfield. Following their separation, she returned to Ohio to be near her mother in Westerville. Jackie later worked as a title clerk for Bob Caldwell’s dealerships until her health required her to retire.
Jackie loved to travel, sharing many memorable trips with her mother and stepfather, Harry Holtom, to Northern Ontario, Canada, and spending winter days in Cancun, Mexico. She enjoyed reading, music, and her favorite television shows, often finding joy in simple routines and quiet moments.
Her compassion for animals was reflected in the love she gave her dogs—Sammy, Maggie, and Lulu. Jackie also held a deep affection for her nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, extended family, and many friends and neighbors, including two special young friends, Caroline and Piper.
She will be remembered for her wit, humor, and candid spirit—a woman who spoke her mind with honesty and heart. Jackie’s life was defined by courage, humor, and loyalty, leaving behind cherished memories and a lasting legacy of love and resilience.
Yvonne Shop, 73, of Westerville, Ohio, passed away on August 25, 2025, at The Ohio State University’s James Hospice Care.
She was born on October 25, 1951, in Pineville, West Virginia, to the late Roy Lee and Zelma Mae (Sauls) Privett.
Yvonne is survived by her daughter, Alicia (Art) Valero; grandchildren, Brandon, Alexa, and Cami Junk; brother, Michael (Debbie) Privett; niece and nephew, Shane and Stacia Privett; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her son-in-law, Greg Junk.
Yvonne dedicated more than 45 years to her career as a licensed nurse in long-term care, where her compassion and professionalism touched many lives. Outside of work, she enjoyed reading, caring for animals, and spending time with her family.
Though she valued her privacy, Yvonne’s devotion to her loved ones was unmistakable. She will be remembered as a caring grandmother, a supportive mother, and a steadfast sister whose quiet strength and love left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Judith Irene Davison Bope, 86, of Westerville, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home on September 10, 2025, with her husband by her side.
Born June 18, 1939, in Columbus, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Harold Eugene and Helen Irene Davison. She was also preceded in death by her son, Scott Eugene Bope; siblings Peggy Ann Bluck, BettyMae Effinger, Jane Brokaw, Harold “Sonny” Davison; and great-grandson Parker Wayne Gorsuch.
Judy is survived by her devoted husband of 67 years, Jack Randall Bope Jr.; children, Randy Bope, Debra (Barry) Gorsuch, the late Scott Bope, and Christina (Mark) Perri; 15 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
A 1958 graduate of Linden McKinley High School, Judy married Jack shortly after graduation, and together they built a loving home in Westerville. She worked as a bookkeeper for the family’s service stations and was best known for her humor, warmth, and endless devotion to her family.
Judy loved dancing with her husband, spending time by the pool with her grandchildren, and sharing her signature Juicy Fruit gum. She will be remembered as the heart of her family — joyful, generous, and deeply loved.
Edna Slaybaugh, 95, of Westerville, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 13, 2025, surrounded by her family.
She was born in Toledo, Ohio, where she lived for 68 years before moving to Westerville. Edna retired from the Toledo Board of Education after many years as a school secretary at several elementary schools. After relocating, she continued her lifelong spirit of service by volunteering at Mount Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital.
Edna loved to travel, read, and spend time working on jigsaw puzzles. Above all, she was devoted to her family — a proud and loving mother who celebrated every milestone and achievement with joy and encouragement.
Her kindness, grace, and quiet strength will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
John Michael Klavon, 78, of Westerville, Ohio, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2025, surrounded by his daughter, Michelle Lippincott (Klavon), son-in-law, Paul, and his sweetheart of 15 years, Barb Bickham.
Born on January 22, 1947, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, John spent 28 years working as a welder for AEP, where he built lasting friendships and took great pride in his work.
He will be remembered as a kind, generous, and selfless man who made life better for everyone who knew him. As his longtime friend Marty Gould once said, “If everyone was like John, there would be world peace.”
A talented craftsman, John was admired for his skillful handiwork and appreciation for the simple joys of life. He found peace in the outdoors, loved flowers, and treasured time spent fishing with his close friends.
John’s warmth, humor, and gentle spirit touched many lives. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished by those who loved him.
Elizabeth Sue Bennett, 68, of Westerville, Ohio, went home to heaven on September 17, 2025.
She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Barry Newlin Jr., and her parents, Ruthann and Jerry Bennett. Sue is survived by her brothers, Randy and Fred Bennett, and her sister, Sarah Bennett.
Sue was a loving mother, sister, aunt, and friend whose kindness and creativity touched many lives. She was known for her thoughtful gifts and her talent with fabric, creating beautiful quilts and felt art.
A devoted student of Scripture, Sue found great joy in reading and studying the Bible, both on her own and with friends. Her generous heart, gentle spirit, and unwavering faith will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Dorothy Ann Dover, 90, of Westerville, Ohio, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2025.
Born on December 11, 1934, in Columbus, Dorothy graduated from Linden McKinley High School and worked as a talented seamstress for All-Rite Lettering, where she designed uniforms for local teams. At home, she brought the same creativity and care to making shirts and apparel for her children and grandchildren.
A lifelong sports fan, Dorothy loved cheering for The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Reds. She was also known for her exceptional cooking and for welcoming everyone into her home with warmth, laughter, and good food.
Dorothy was especially beloved for her Christmas celebrations, which became treasured family traditions marked by joy, decorations, and togetherness.
She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and the love she shared so freely with her family and friends — leaving behind a legacy of comfort, laughter, and home.
Brian Heneger, 58, of Westerville, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, September 27, 2025, surrounded by family.
Born on December 3, 1966, in Columbus, he was the son of Virgie Mae Henegar of Westerville and the late Alger Bert Henegar.
Brian will be remembered as a man of deep faith, kindness, and humor. He was always ready to lend a helping hand, bringing laughter and comfort to everyone around him. A devoted father, his greatest joy was being “Rena’s Dad,” a role he cherished above all else.
He spent many years as Manager of Sports World and later as Fleet Manager for Foxworth Galbraith/Arkansas Valley Lumber. Brian also gave back to his community as a youth football coach, guiding young athletes with patience and encouragement.
An avid cook, bowler, and golfer, Brian enjoyed life’s simple pleasures and shared them generously. A loyal fan of the Green Bay Packers and Ohio State Buckeyes, he approached everything with enthusiasm and heart.
Brian’s warmth, laughter, and compassion touched countless lives. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Margaret Ann Fruth, 98, of Westerville, Ohio, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family.
Born to the late Lawrence and Margaret (Freeman) Kaiser, she was one of ten children. Margaret worked as a waitress in Westerville and Delaware before joining Anomatic in Westerville.
She is survived by her children, Larry (Jane) Fruth of Newark, Jim (Laurel) Fruth of Boulder City, NV, and Jeff (Debbie) Fruth of Westerville; six grandchildren, Darrell Fruth, Brandon Fruth, Leah (Tim) Adkins, Amanda (Kyle) Stout, Hannah (James) Adamson, and Julia (Andrew) Sarnicki; and 13 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Gerald Fruth; sisters, Veronica Robinson, Mary Lundquist, and Rita Kaiser; and brothers, Joseph, Bernard, Paul, Henry, Hugh, and Phillip.
Margaret enjoyed playing euchre and canasta, traveling the country in the motorhome she and Jerry shared, and spending time fishing at Buckeye Lake. Known for her excellent cooking and sense of humor, she brought warmth and laughter to every gathering.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Luminary Hospice, especially Melissa, Cassandra, Missy, and Halle, and to her devoted Visiting Angel, Sheila Vance, for their loving care and companionship.
Robert “Bob” Mack, 88, of Westerville, Ohio, passed away on September 26, 2025. He was born on January 8, 1937, and for the past 46 years made Westerville his home with his wife, Ginny Mack.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, three siblings, and his daughter, Robin. He is survived by his wife, Ginny; children, Lara Ruffing, Heather (Matt) Fisher, and Tim (Melinda) Mack; grandchildren, Stephen (Samantha), Mariah, Bridget, Ethan, Lauren, and Eleanor; great-grandchildren, Avery and Ryan; and three surviving siblings.
A quiet man with a rich and varied life, Bob’s journey took him from raising chickens in Pittsburgh to serving as an ordained Catholic priest, and later as a Vice President at Chase Bank. He was devoted to his church, enjoyed golf, and cherished time with his family.
A lifelong Pittsburgh Steelers fan, he could always be found on game day waving his Terrible Towel. Though soft-spoken, Bob’s sharp wit and gentle humor left a lasting impression on everyone around him. He was deeply loved and will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Ralph L. Huggins, 91, of Westerville, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord and his beloved wife on September 23, 2025.
Born in Fredericktown, Ohio, Ralph was the son of Linn “Tommy” and Grace (Graham) Huggins. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Business from The Ohio State University, where he was a proud member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. Following graduation, he served as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army’s Armor Branch.
Ralph built a distinguished career at Huntington National Bank, where he served as Vice President and Regional Manager for more than 30 years. He later completed graduate studies in banking at the University of Wisconsin and was honored to serve as President of the Columbus Chapter of the American Institute of Banking.
In retirement, Ralph and his wife enjoyed an active and fulfilling life together, participating in church activities, golfing, and traveling. Their adventures took them across the globe, including memorable trips to India, China, and several African safaris.
Ralph will be remembered for his integrity, leadership, and devotion to family and faith.
Jeffery “Jeff” Lytle, 71, of Westerville, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Akron, Jeff spent most of his life in Westerville, where he lived for 63 years. A proud graduate of Westerville High School’s Class of 1971, he built a successful 24-year career with Roy Tailors Uniform Company, outfitting Ohio’s police, fire, and EMS professionals with care and respect.
In retirement, Jeff enjoyed a slower pace of life—splitting time between Westerville and his home in Pawleys Island, South Carolina. He loved golf, good humor, and cheering on The Ohio State Buckeyes.
Jeff was a man of few words but endless wit, known for his quick jokes and big heart. Though an only child, he was surrounded by the large and loving family he built—through marriage, friendship, and shared laughter.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 44 years, Nancy Lytle, and a wide circle of family and friends who will forever remember his humor, warmth, and steady presence.
