Interior Gutted And Saved
Demolition of portions of the old post office and former Westerville Police Detective Bureau is almost complete with the removal of the concrete-walled federal safe and a wall in the basement.
Plans include retaining the concretion, shown above, that has been moved from its original position to where the southside sidewalk once was. The contractor says it will be put in storage before returning to the site after construction is complete.
Also retained are the one-inch-thick steel doors of the safe shown at top left in the photo above. (Interior Photo Gallery Below)
The main ramped entrance at the rear of the building is removed with plans to add a handicapped ramp on a portion of the Brick Walk at the rear of the building. An elevator will be added to the building just inside the rear entrance.
